The Ligue 1 giants are active in the market for a striker and Salomon Rondon is the latest to be linked with a move to Stade Velodrome.

Salomon Rondon is currently back at parent club, West Bromwich Albion after a successful loan spell at Newcastle United. Rafael Benitez is a huge fan of the Venezuela international but so far, the Magpies haven’t been active in securing his signature on a permanent basis.

And it appears that the striker isn’t short of suitors. Reports claim that Ligue 1 giants, Olympique de Marseille are looking to make their move for the striker. At present, Les Phoceens are short on striking options following the departure of Mario Balotelli. The Rhone club was keen on holding on to the Italy international. However, Balotelli wants to return to Italy instead.

Marseille are also looking at bringing Czech striker, Patrik Shchik on loan from Roma. The youngster struggled for form and consistency and Andre Villas-Boas is willing to sign the youngster on loan with an option to purchase.

Reports in Foot Mercato claim that a fee in the region of €20 million would be enough to sign Schik.

However, Rondon remains the priority at the moment. The striker is currently at the Copa America with Venezuela but would want to seek a move away from West Brom. And with just one year left on his contract, the striker wouldn’t be against the idea of moving to France.

Villas-Boas knows all the qualities Rondon has, having coached him during the duo’s spell at Zenit Saint-Petersburg.

Competition will be tough however. The likes of Feberbahace and Newcastle are very serious in signing the striker. West Ham United are also looking into the possibility of bringing Rondon back to the Premier League.

With Rondon being a wanted man, it appears that he could be in the middle of a transfer battle.
