It is derby time in Milano as AC Milan host their cross-town rivals Inter in the fourth Serie A round.

The 224th Derby della Madonnina will see AC Milan and Inter face off at the San Siro Stadium tomorrow evening at 20:45 (CET).

Internazionale will ‘visit’ their bitter rivals as Serie A leaders with three wins in the opening three rounds.

The Nerazzurri are the only side with a perfect score in the Italian Championship, but their Champions League campaign began with a surprising 1-1 draw against Slavia Praha, thanks to Nicolo Barella’s last-gasp equalizer.

Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek opened his account this season in AC Milan’s 1-0 win at Verona over the previous weekend.

The Rossoneri have registered two wins and a defeat in the 2019-20 Serie A campaign so far, with all three games finishing with the same scoreline, 1-0.

Team news

AC Milan will be without right-back Davide Calabria for the next three games following his 94th-minute red card against Verona last weekend.

Mattia Caldara is a long-term absentee for the host side, as he is still recovering from a ruptured cruciate ligament sustained in the previous season.

Antonio Candreva could miss the following Derby della Madonnina, as he was forced off with an injury in the second half against Slavia Praha midweek.

New signings Romelu Lukaku and Stefano Sensi have already established themselves as first-team players in Antonio Conte’s side, while Alexis Sanchez is still waiting for his full debut for the Nerazzurri.

Talk to the press

Antonio Conte admits his side has some areas of the game which have to be improved, but he insists the players will give their best in the Derby.

“All derbies are special and this is no exception. Milan are a great side, but we will prepare well as always,” said Conte at the pre-game press conference.

“Our job is to give out best on the field and we want to stick to our game plan. At times we can do that, but on other occasions, it is harder.

“We will give 100 percent, the lads always give their all. Honestly, we have some areas to work on but we are not afraid of the challenge.”

New Inter boss Antonio Conte has never lost to AC Milan as a manager. He has registered six wins and three draws in nine games against the Rossoneri.

The Nerazzurri won both meetings with their arch-rivals in Serie A last season – 1-0 at home and 3-2 as visitors.

AC Milan failed to beat Inter in their last six league encounters. Their most recent win in the Derby came in January 2016.

Inter scored on two of their last five outings as visitors at the San Siro Stadium, winning only on the most recent occasion.

Their 3-2 win last season is Milan’s only home defeat in Serie A in the calendar 2019 year. The Rossoneri won seven of their 10 league home games in the past eight and a half months.
