Salzburg go head to head with the European champions for a historic place in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Red Bull Salzburg welcome Liverpool and their former winger Sadio Mane in a direct encounter for progress into the next round of the most elite club football competition in Europe.
The math is quite simple for the Austrian champions – they need to win in order to qualify and most probably knock the title holders out of the Champions League.
An extra motivation for the hosts might be the fact that they have never reached the knockout stages of the European Cup and have a historic chance to do it for the first time.
Still big favorites for the first place in Group E, Liverpool visit Salzburg on the back of a 3-0 win at Bournemouth over the past weekend.
The Reds will be looking to avoid defeat and continue their title defense in the Round of 16.
They’ve won 10 of their last 11 games across all competitions, although the only defeat they’ve suffered this season came in the Champions League, 2-0 to Napoli in the opener back in September.
In the previous encounter between Liverpool and Salzburg at Anfield, the Reds threw away an early 3-0 lead, but won the game 4-3 thanks to Mohamed Salah’s winner 20 minutes from full time.
