Nemanja Matic could leave Manchester United on a free at the end of the season, but he still hopes to stay beyond that.
Nemanja Matic has a contract at Manchester United until the end of the season. The 31-year-old knows he is not likely to get a lengthy new contract to stay at the club. But the Serbian’s first choice is to remain with the Red Devils.
Matic has endured an indifferent time at United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over. He was brought in by the previous manager Jose Mourinho to be his midfield general. However, since his old boss left he has seen his playing time diminish.
Now, given all United’s recent injury woes in midfield, Matic has seen himself brought back into the fold more regularly.
In an interview reported by Goal, the player himself admits there have been offers to leave United. However, he has firmly rejected them.
While he has yet to agree on an extension beyond this season, his first choice is to remain a Red Devil.
“My first option is Manchester United, but if they decide something else then there are always solutions.”
“I can’t tell who is asking for me but for sure, when you play at Manchester United, many clubs are looking to sign you.”
“No discussions have happened yet, but my position is clear.”
“It’s a pleasure to represent this club.”
” I came here to win and if they want me to stay then, of course, I’ll give my best to win trophies.”
“I’ve got a contract until the end of the season.”
