Legendary German footballer Lothar Matthaus has admitted that Bayer Leverkusen player Kai Havertz could win the Ballon d’Or one day.

According to one of the biggest legends in German football, Lothar Matthaus, Bayer Leverkusen’s footballer Kai Havertz might be able to win the Ballon d’Or one day.

“He has set the bar very high,” he was quoted by Goal.

“For me, he was the player of the season, and if Havertz can maintain this high level, with that lightness, cleverness, presence on the pitch and scoring goals, then he could eventually become my successor as a world footballer of the year.”

“He can play in the Champions League, and then he will probably make the move to a very big club,” Matthaus continued.

“He has shown what he is capable of.”

Havertz’ teammate goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky also praised him: “Guys here are just happy to play with him.”

“They want to come to play with him.”

“This elegance, tranquillity, and sense of space usually only happens to players when they are 28-years-old,” the keeper concluded.
