Torino defeated Debrecen 3-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, but manager Walter Mazzarri wants the team to forget the result.
Torino coach Walter Mazzarri doesn’t want any surprises in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League preliminary round.
And even after defeating Debrecen 3-0 in the first leg, he wants his players to forget about the result and try to win the next match.
“The first leg was very positive for us, as we managed to score three goals and prevented Debrecen from expressing their potential,” he told Football Italia.
“However, we mustn’t think that it’s done and dusted, because we are facing an organized team that has always achieved very good results on their home turf.”
“They’ll do everything to turn this result around,” he added.
“We’ve got to focus on ourselves, as we have an identity and style of football that is consolidated. We must forget the first leg result, as we want to win here too.”
He explained: “We’ve got limited options, but compared to the first leg, I only really have to replace Iago Falque.”
“I can rely on the lads at my disposal. We already saw last season that once we got that team mentality, we could rotate and still have similar performances.”
“I have more experience in Europe than these players, so I drilled into them all week that they mustn’t let concentration levels drop. We have to take control of the match,” he commented.
“I also told them that victory has to become normal for us rather than an exception, so they had one day off after the game and then straight back to work.”
