An international teammate of the PSG superstar has backed him to scale the same heights as the two living legends of the game.
Antoine Griezmann couldn’t help but lavish praise on Kylian Mbappe after his masterful performance in the Champions League last-16 1st leg tie between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona.
Mbappe leveled things up for PSG after Barca had taken the lead with the help of a penalty in the first half.
The 22-year-old then added two more, with Moise Kean also finding the back of the net to guide his side to a ruthless 4-1 victory at Camp Nou.
In doing so, the French forward became the first player since 1977 and only the third player overall to hit a hat-trick against Barcelona in the Champions League.
Mbappe has long been touted as the rightful heir to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, and Griezmann is confident that his international teammate can reach similar levels.
“I am happy for him,” he told of the PSG superstar to RMC Sport after the full-time whistle.
“He has been criticized a lot, but that is what happens when you are someone for a little while. As soon as he plays less well, we criticize him. It is quite easy.
“But I believe that PSG have a future star, one who will be on the level of Leo and Cristiano.”
“I can only congratulate him, he had a very great game.”
