It’s time to tell you all about the freshest AS Monaco face, an Italian football prodigy by the name of Pietro Pellegri who is the Nazionale’s biggest hope.

French club AS Monaco is doing many things wrong lately, but they are doing something very well with their scouting for young talent as they have managed to Italian prodigy Pietro Pellegri for the next few years. The Italian striker who is only 17 years old and is already getting all the headlines due to his precocious appearance in European football that has everybody completely stunned. This is a striker from Serie A who made his debut at 15 years and 280 days, equalling the exact same years that AS Roma’s Amedeo Amadei had set as a record that came 80 years ago back in 1937. Pellegri also became the very first player who was born in the 21sti century to play a Serie A match in football history, he did it for his home club Genoa back in December 2016 and he hasn’t stopped growing as a player ever since. The kid’s first goal came in May when Genoa lost 3-2 against AS Roma, which turned him into the third youngest goalscorer in Serie A history behind Amadei and Italian legend Gianni Rivera.

A few months later in September, Pellegri scored a brace against Lazio and became the youngest player ever to do this in Serie A. There is no denying that this kid was going places even at such an early age, but he has kept getting recognition he’s always wanted due to his skills as a center-forward that can bring back the times of legendary strikers like Paolo Rossi or Christian Vieri. Pellegri is tall just like those two we mentioned, he has mad skills with the ball at his feet and he can get out of the box to combine with his teammates and create offensive football from the outside. This recognition quickly brought the attention of some of the best clubs in European football, Pietro only lasted a couple of seasons with Genoa and then he made a decision that has changed his life forever. This past summer there were offers coming from almost every Serie A squad in Italy, but Pellegri wanted to try something a little different and started hearing offers from abroad.

Enter AS Monaco.

Known for their world-class eye to spot young talent, AS Monaco has lately gotten really good at getting players who are considered stars of the future and Pellegri is without question one of those players. The young Italian player didn’t get the minutes he wanted at Genoa as he only played 9 matches and scored three goals in two seasons, he saw how AS Monaco took Kylian Mbappé to stardom and quickly realized that the French club from Ligue 1 was the best option for a player as young as him. They reportedly paid Genoa €25 million for young Pietro this summer, and after only a few months with the first team he has already made his debut in the French league and became one of the club’s most prominent players. In four matches with his new squad, Pellegri already became the youngest player to debut for AS Monaco with only 16 years, 10 months, and 3 days after coming in for Keita Balde in his teams 4-0 victory against Dijon.

Just last week came another special moment for Pellegri, as he got to score his first ever goal in Ligue 1 against Girondins Bordeaux and effectively became the first ever 21st century-born player to score in the French competition. At the pace he keeps growing, it wouldn’t surprise us if Pellegri doesn’t last that long at AS Monaco and in just a couple of years his name appears on the wish lists of some of the biggest clubs in the world. It’s incredibly weird to talk about a player who is only 17 years of age and hasn’t really played that much professional football, but trust us when we tell you that Pietro Pellegri is that good of a player and he has all the potential to become Italy’s biggest hope for major competitions in the next 15 years. It’s AS Monaco’s responsibility to help Pietro Pellegri grow as a professional and a person, that way he won’t let fame get to his head too early in the game and he can give us one of Italy’s greatest players ever. The talent is there.
