With a double scored by captain Megan Rapinoe, the United States defeated France and reached the Women’s World Cup semifinals.
After Megan Rapinoe was challenged by president Donald Trump, the United States captain came out to score a double against France on Friday.
The current World Cup champions needed to defeat France at Parc des Princes in Paris, they wanted to keep winning in order to reach their second straight final in this competition.
Megan Rapinoe was the cover of many media outlets throughout the week for her confrontation with president Donald Trump, whom she considers a sexist and a racist.
The captain refused to go to the White House if the United States wins the World Cup at the end of this summer, but Trump asked her to win the competition first.
It didn’t take Rapinoe long to respond to the president, she scored an early free-kick goal that she celebrated with a smile on her face.
The match didn’t get more goals until the second half, Rapinoe scored the second goal after getting an assist from heath with 25 minutes left on the clock.
The French squad was arguably one of the most complicated rivals the United States could face in this competition, which leaves them as the absolute favorites to win the World Cup.
The tournament hosts did get their goal through Renard’s header but it wasn’t enough to get back in the game.
The American squad will face England in the semifinals on Tuesday, it will be an electrifying match.
