Memphis Depay will be in action again this summer. He is ready to set the stage alight at the finals of the UEFA Nations League in Portugal
Memphis Depay is no stranger to big occasions. He has played at the highest level with Lyon, Manchester United, and the Dutch National team.
Depay lead the line for Lyon in the 2018/19 season. He bagged himself a decent 10 goals and 10 assists in 36 games for the club.
But his football career is set to resume with the National team. The Netherlands are part of the UEFA Nations League finals this June.
Depay will look to take lead the line for the Dutch as he did with Lyon. He hopes the team ends the tournament with a trophy. Speaking to UEFA, he said:
“First of all, you are playing for a trophy. That’s very important for us. We have some younger guys, some guys with more experience: we have a great group.”
“We need to try to get used to winning trophies if we want to be a successful team, because that’s what successful teams do.”
The Dutch face England in the semifinal. Memphis Depay rates the Three Lions very highly.
But he feels his team are up for the challenge:
“Tough opponents indeed. They’re a team with players who are getting used to winning trophies; players from [Manchester] City and players who are in the Champions League final.”
“It will be a good but tough game and I am confident we can beat them.”
Depay also believes Ronald Koeman brings new and useful elements to the team:
“[Koeman builds] Communication with the players. He has improved that a lot. Everything we have to do is clear. Everyone’s pulling in the same direction, and you can tell by watching us.”
“The energy and team spirit are both very good. You can tell during both training and matches. That’s very important, and we are making progress.”
England and the Netherlands go head-to-head on June 6.
