The French defender was in a wheelchair for almost seven months, after he had hip surgery when he was a 15-year-old boy.
French defender Ferland Mendy had a hip surgery when he was just 15-years-old.
And after rehabilitation, he was able to walk again.
Now he compares his progress to joining Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.
“I was in a wheelchair for a while and I spent between six and seven months in the hospital doing rehabilitation so I could walk again,” Mendy told the BBC.
“They told me I wasn’t going to play again. Now I’m at Real Madrid.”
“At the beginning, I just couldn’t believe it,” he said about moving to Madrid.
“This is a great club and being able to sign a contract with them to me is something absolutely incredible, fantastic.”
“I’m absolutely overjoyed and hopefully everything will go well here,” he concluded.
Los Merengues have already signed Belgium forward Eden Hazard from Chelsea, and Serbia striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt.
