Messi and Lautaro lead Argentina to win vs Nicaragua

With doubles from Messi and Lautaro and one more goal from Pereyra, Argentina gets a victory in the last friendly before the Copa America.

Today was the day in which the Argentina National Team would have a chance to get the idea of how to use Lionel Messi with his teammates.

The ‘Albiceleste’ played a friendly international in San Juan against the Nicaragua National Team, Messi obviously started the match.

This was one of the few games that gave us Leo playing next to Sergio Aguero in the starting lineup.

Manager Lionel Scaloni used a 4-3-3 formation that was highly offensive, with winger Suarez playing on the left next to Aguero.

The Argentina squad had a fairly easy match to play before they travel to Brazil next week in order to start the Copa America.

In midfield, Giovani Lo Celso played a fantastic first half with Lionel Messi and he proved that he is one of the players who can pair up better with the Barcelona star.

The Real Betis player was actually the one who provided the first assist of the night for Lionel, who got to score his goal number 66 for the Argentina National Team during the 37th minute of the game.

It took only one minute for Leo to get his brace after Sergio Aguero’s shot was deflected by the goalkeeper and Messi only came to push the ball in the back of the net.

With this initial result, the game went into half time.

After the break, manager Lionel Scaloni decided to give Messi some rest and he used Paulo Dybala on the pitch.

The gaffer also took Sergio Aguero out in order to see how Lautaro Martinez played as the centre-forward.

It took Argentina nearly 20 minutes to get comfortable with these modifications, Lautaro proved that he is a good option as a substitute by scoring the third goal.

The Internazionale Milano striker grabbed a long pass from the right wing and finished with his right foot, his shot went right into the bottom corner through several Nicaraguan defenders.

Lautaro eventually found another opening after a corner kick that granted him the chance to write his name next to Messi as the players who scored two goals in the same match.

Argentina was clearly dominating the final minutes of the game but Nicaragua is not a rival that counts as a proper competitive test ahead of the Copa America.

Regardless of this, the ‘Albiceleste’ took this commitment seriously and they even got to score a fifth goal through Pereyra after the cross from De Paul came through the left wing.

Nicaragua was able to pull one goal back for his country through a penalty that was awarded for them, but Argentina had this result in the bag.

The final verdict of this last friendly before the Copa America is that the ‘Albiceleste’ can’t know for certain how competitive they are.

All we could gather from this match is that Lionel Messi is back in the scoresheet with his country, he got to his 67th goal with the national team and increased his record.

We could also confirm that Lautaro Martinez is Lionel Scaloni’s top scorer from the new era, the Inter striker is certainly doing much better than he’s done so far in Europe.

The next time we will get to watch Argentina play will be in Copa America, as they take on Colombia for Group B’s activity.

This next match is the one that will finally tell us if Lionel Messi actually has a chance to fight for his first trophy with his national team.

Scaloni at least got a good idea of which players he wants to use for the initial match.

This Argentina squad has a better chance to win the tournament after Brazil got the terrible news of Neymar missing the Copa America with another injury.

Messi needs to take this chance now that his friend will miss the competition.
