Barcelona legend Rivaldo believes should Lionel Messi leave Barcelona a reunion with Pep Guardiola could be too good to turn down.

With talk of major fallouts behind the scenes at Barcelona, the future of talisman Lionel Messi is up for debate once more.

Rumor has it the Argentine is stalling on putting pen to paper on a new deal, with his current contract expiring in 2021.

Barcelona legend Rivaldo insists he would be devastated to see Messi leave the Catalan giants. However, he admits if things do not improve at the Camp Nou the idea of reuniting with friend and mentor Pep Guardiola could be too good to turn down.

Speaking to Betfair, Rivaldo believes even at 34 when his current deal expires Messi is still good enough for the Premier League.

He said:

“If he is considering leaving the club, then something mustn’t be good in the Barcelona dressing room.”

“Perhaps he is tired with all the constant problems that have surrounded the club in the last few months.”

“When Messi’s contract ends, he will be 34, but with his class, I think he could still easily play in the Premier League.”

“It will be sad to see him leaving Barcelona once his contract ends eventually, but I still hope that he can stay for now.”

“Despite his connection to the club, he has the right to move if he wants and reuniting with Pep Guardiola at City will be tempting for him, as the two of them formed a great coach and player partnership at Barca.”

The idea of partnering up with Ballon d’Or nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo has also been suggested. What a line up at Juventus that would be.
