Lionel Messi has praised Lautaro Martinez but failed to shed any light on transfer speculations connecting him to FC Barcelona.
An impressive campaign with Inter Milan this term has seen Lautaro Martinez emerge as one the most sought-after talents in world football.
He was one of Inter’s standout performers in their quest to put an end to Juventus‘ Serie A dominance and bring the title home to themselves, prior to coronavirus pandemic bringing football to a standstill.
Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona for quite a while now. With both Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez approaching their twilight years, Barca are understood to be in search of a potent attacker. And Martinez, who has scored 16 goals in 31 games across all competitions, is seemingly an ideal choice.
Quique Setien earlier praised the 22-year old while discussing the possibility of signing him. Lionel Messi has now echoed his manager’s sentiments and highlighted his countryman’s strengths.
“If I’m honest I don’t know very well if there were or are negotiations right now. I have no idea,” Messi told Mundo Deportivo.
“I think I already mentioned it, that Lautaro is an impressive striker, especially because I think he is a very complete forward. He is strong, he dribbles well, he scores goals, he knows how to protect the ball.
“But well, we will have to see what happens finally with him and with other players.”
