In a ceremony organized by Mundo Deportivo, La Liga president Javier Tebas awarded Lionel Messi with the MVP trophy for the 2017-2018 season.

Lionel Messi was hands down the most valuable player of the 2017-2018 season in La Liga, he was just recognized as such by president Javier Tebas during an award ceremony organized by Mundo Deportivo on Monday.

The FC Barcelona star was the leader of the Catalan club that conquered last seasons La Liga trophy, in which he also finished as the top scorer after scoring 34 goals that granted him the fifth Golden Shoe of his career.

But as far as the most valuable player goes, Messi was also recognized with this individual accolade and he received it by La Liga’s president before offering a speech in which he spoke about several topics.

First of all, Messi thanked La Liga for another MVP award. The Argentine also spoke about how complicated it will be to defeat Sevilla next Wednesday in Copa del Rey, he urged all the Barcelona supporters to visit Camp Nou Stadium and cheer for them.

And last but not least, the Argentine also spoke about how complicated it will be for them to win another La Liga trophy but he confessed how excited he is for the great season the whole squad is having.

In the gala celebrated by Mundo Deportivo news outlet, Lionel Messi was the star of the show after receiving the most important individual award of the evening and coming to the stage where he received it.

Alongside presenter Jordi Baste and Javier Tebas, Messi began his speech by saying: “Good evening everyone, it is my pleasure being here,” said Messi to Mundo Deportivo.

“This is a very nice recognition because of everything it means, it is very important for me and I would like to thank La Liga for this recognition.”

“It will be hard to overturn a 2-0 result against a great team such as Sevilla,” he added about the Copa del Rey match on Wednesday.

“We will need our fans to come to the stadium next Wednesday as they have very good players and they play very well on the counter-attack.”

“We will need to give the best out of the squad, but we will also need all the supporters to get through the next stage, we all want to get to the semifinals.”

“It is a tight league tournament this season, both on the top and the bottom, with a few points of difference between them,” he continued.

“We will try to carry on in this form and continue collecting points.”

Despite not having played a single minute against Sevilla in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal’s first leg due to Ernesto Valverde’s decision, Lionel Messi is expected to be part of the call-up list for the second leg at Camp Nou and everybody is expecting a very different squad to the one we saw at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

The Barcelona manager has risked a few matches by not even calling Messi to the game because he has a theory, he thinks that resting the Argentine for a certain amount of matches will benefit the squad in the Champions League this season and having him only play the home matches in Copa del Rey until they reach the final will let us enjoy the best version of the star during the final part of the season in all competitions.

Maybe this wager won’t work or maybe it will, we won’t know this until the time comes when we have to watch Barcelona perform against Olympique Lyonnais next month in the Champions League’s round of 16.

But for now, we can rest easy because we will see Messi performing against Sevilla.
