Barcelona have announced that Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez will sit out of their Copa del Rey first leg game at Levante
The Catalan giants are chasing a fourth cup title in a row this season and will head over the Ciutat de Valencia in a Round of 16 clash.
Manager Ernesto Valverde has, however, decided to not call upon the services of his star strikers Messi and Suarez, who have scored 28 of Barcelona’s 50 La Liga goals combined this season.
Barcelona also announced on Twitter that Valencia loanee Jeison Murillo is in the squad after being left on the bench in their 2-1 league win against Getafe last weekend.
Forward Munir El Haddadi, who is being strongly linked with a move to Sevilla this month, is out of the Barcelona team.
In a press conference on Wednesday, Valverde even indicated that Munir will not play for the club again with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
“We believe Munir has made a decision on his future and the club seem to have decided to,” said Valverde.
“For us the best thing now is for a solution to be found as soon as possible and preferably, a move will happen this month.”
Valverde added that Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal could be deployed in a more advanced role for tonight.
The match between Levante and Barcelona will begin at 21:30 (CET).
