With goals from Lautaro and Lo Celso, Lionel Messi’s Argentina finally found a solid version of themselves vs Venezuela. They will play vs Brazil in semis.

Right in the middle of an internal scandal between two of Argentina’s biggest legends, Lionel Messi and his teammates played vs Venezuela at Maracana Stadium.

The second quarterfinal match of this Copa America began with many interesting details to note, the winner would face Brazil on Tuesday at Mineirao Stadium.

To those who don’t remember, this venue is the same one where Brazil got schooled by Germany in the 2014 World Cup.

This incentive would be more than enough to motivate Argentina for this match against Venezuela, it certainly motivated Leo Messi from the start.

During the anthems, Lionel was spotted singing the one from his country for the first time in history.

Things appeared to run smoothly from the very start for Scaloni’s boys, who placed Lautaro and Aguero together with the captain from the start once again.

This initial tactical plan worked from the very beginning, Martinez is arguably the most inspired player that Argentina has on this tournament.

The Internazionale Milano striker scored the first goal of the match with a beautiful backheel attempt after getting an assist from Sergio Aguero.

This goal came at around the 10th minute of the match, it was more than enough to give Argentina a much-needed breath of fresh air.

After the initial goal, the ‘Albiceleste’ dominated the rest of the first half with several chances they created.

Messi wasn’t playing at his best but he didn’t need to out the team of his shoulders for a change.

This lack of responsibility felt great for Messi, he suddenly started playing a midfield role that we hadn’t seen from him in Argentina.

Scaloni’s squad dominated the first half completely, there wasn’t a single moment that made them feel in danger against the ‘Vinotinto’.

With this initial advantage thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s goal, the game went into half time and we expected more of the same from both teams.

After the break, Venezuela did improve in many aspects and they had three very clear chances that nearly gave them the equalizer.

Goalkeeper Franco Armani had to make three very important appearances that decided the match, they came when Argentina was still only one goal ahead.

Those saves from the River Plate goalkeeper were more than enough to keep Argentina in the game and eventually create the chance that brought them the second goal.

Samuel Eto'o, FC Barcelona

With 15 minutes left on the match, Giovani Lo Celso found a rebound after a Sergio Aguero shot was rejected by the goalkeeper.

Argentina found the second goal and got that ticket to the semifinal against Brazil.

Messi wasn’t himself during the second half.

Despite Lionel Messi playing an important midfield role during the first half, we can easily say that Leo was the worst player of his side against Venezuela.

This might be regarded as bad news for the captain, but it is actually great news for Argentina.

This means that many of the other ‘Albiceleste’ players gave a good performance and Messi no longer has to worry about doing everything himself.

Lautaro Martinez was one of the best players in the game, Lo Celso was also important after scoring the second goal.

However, the MVP was Franco Armani without question due to the three saves he made during the second half.

The next rival will be Brazil in the semifinals, a confrontation that brings back memories due to the historic rivalry these two squads have.

Brazil has a lot more pressure to win this game due to the recent history in this stadium.

Many Brazilian players are still unable to forget that painful 7-1 defeat against Germany in the World Cup semifinals five years ago.

The match at Mineirao Stadium will take happen on Tuesday at 21:30 local time, check your local listings to enjoy the game.

Next up, we have Colombia against Chile in the other quarterfinal of this Friday.
