Lionel Messi returned to the Argentine national team with a bang as he scored the decisive goal to lead his side to victory over arch-rivals Brazil.

Messi was banned from representing Argentina for three months, after his “corruption” comments aimed at the organizers of the COPA America.

This game was his first back since his suspension ended, and it came against none other than South American rivals Brazil.

This was an international friendly, but the games between these two are usually anything but friendly.

While the referee only dished out six yellow cards, there were a total of 41 fouls recorded.

Brazil was awarded a penalty in the ninth minute, which was taken by Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus. He failed to convert from 12 yards out.

Three minutes later Messi is fouled and awarded a penalty. The Barcelona man steps up and misses too.

However only one minute later, he made up for his error, and gave his side the lead, with a shot from close range.

It was the only goal in a game that saw only one shot on target from Brazil and eight from Argentina.

The Brazilians did dominate possession, but without their superstar Neymar they appeared to lack that quality in the final third.

Argentina ran out the victors in the end and did you ever really doubt it was going to be anyone else’s night, other than the Argentinian prodigal son on his return.
