The Arsenal playmaker believes that young Joe Willock is set to enjoy a breakthrough season for Unai Emery’s side this season.
Joe Willock impressed a lot whenever he was given a chance to play for the senior team last season. The youngster was largely used in the Europa League and the FA Cup by Unai Emery and did enough to become a main part of the club’s preseason camp this summer.
Joe Willock played in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Bayern Munich during the International Champions Cup.
A product of the club’s academy, Willock is likely to play more regularly next season as Unai Emery looks to make the best use of the club’s academy products.
While speaking on the club’s official website, Mesut Ozil has tipped Joe Willock for a great career. The former Germany international expects the 19-year-old to become a big player for Arsenal.
“He knows what he can do, so he is not arrogant on the pitch but he believes in himself,” he told Arsenal’s official website.
“Especially yesterday against Bayern Munich, against a big club, he shows his quality. We are happy to have him.
“He was strong last year as well.
“So of course, if you really work with the first team together always, you feel more comfortable and you believe in yourself more.
“I think this season, especially in the pre-season he shows his quality and I think he can help us this season.
“At the end of the day, those young players have quality.
“They show it every day in the training. If they stay healthy and believe in themselves, so I think he will be a big player.”
And Unai Emery has also been impressed with Joe Willock.
“It’s all progress with him because last year he started with us in the pre-season,” he said after the Bayern clash.
