Things are going from bad to worse at Arsenal. The relationship between Mesut Ozil and boss Unai Emery has gone down the drain
Mesut Ozil has not had the best of seasons in 2018/19. He was out of favor in the eyes of manager, Unai Emery.
This resulted in his lowest appearance tally for a season since 2014/15. He managed to get into a total of 24 games this season.
Despite being fit, Ozil was not included in Arsenal’s first team on various occasions. Unai Emery branded his absence as a “tactical” decision.
Later in the season, Mesut Ozil started to find his feet. With the injury to Aaron Ramsey, Ozil was the first choice playmaker for the team.
But Ozil failed when it mattered the most for the Gunners. They received a thrashing in the UEFA Europa League final at the hands of Chelsea.
It was an embarrassing display by Arsenal. And Mesut Ozil came into the firing line of critics and fans once again.
He did not help his cause when he walked back to the bench on his substitution. Most football pundits reviewed that as a surrender, when the score was 3-1.
And it seems Ozil is in the news for the wrong reasons again. talkSPORT report that Ozil has slammed Unai Emery, telling the manager, “you are not a coach.”
The whole Ozil and Emery falling out saga seemingly continues with the news.
Emery has been demanding more work effort from Ozil in training and in games. But Ozil has yet to deliver the kind of performance the manager wants from him.
It remains to be seen as if this will be the final nail in Ozil’s Arsenal career. The club may look to offload the player.
Ozil costed the Gunners a near €48 million. He is currently on a wage of just under €400,000 a week.
