Mido: Salah will leave Liverpool if he scores another 25-plus goals

Former Tottenham striker Mido believes his fellow Egyptian Mohamed Salah will likely leave Liverpool for Barcelona or Real Madrid if he has another 25-plus goal season

Salah rose to stardom last season with 44 goals in 52 games across all competitions in his debut campaign at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old forward set a new Premier League record of 32 goals in a 38-game season on route to winning the Golden Boot award along with the PFA Player of the Year.

Despite a slow start this time around, Salah appears to be on course to match those feats this term with seven goals in his last six games to bring his total tally up to 16 for this term.

Now Mido thinks it’s likely a big-money move for Salah this summer to either Barcelona or Real will go ahead.

“You never know in football,” Mido told CNN.

“If Barcelona or Real Madrid come for you your head is going to flip, all the players are like that.

“Barcelona and Real Madrid are different – no disrespect to Liverpool.

David Luiz salutes ‘humble’ Arsenal after debut win

A thrilled David Luiz heaped praise on his new squad after helping Arsenal defeat Burnley 2-1 for his debut on Saturday.

“I think Barcelona and Real Madrid were waiting to see how Salah would do this season; they don’t buy players after only one good or great season.

“I think if Salah scores 25-plus goals, I think they will come for him and it will be difficult for Liverpool to keep him.”

The 35-year-old is also backing Salah to cement his place as Egypt’s greatest ever player over the coming years.

“I think Salah is the greatest Egyptian player,” added Mido.

“If I judge all players, we had so many great players in the Egyptian history, we’ve had fantastic players who have done great for the country and for their own clubs back in Egypt as well.

“But football is in Europe. If a player can play at the top for 10, 12 years in Europe, I think he should be considered the best player in Egyptian history.”

Salah will likely start for Liverpool tonight at the Etihad Stadium in their Premier League title showdown with rivals Manchester City with kick-off set for 21:00 (CET).
