John Obi Mikel admits having seen Mohamed Salah up close at Chelsea he never thought he would reach the level he has.

Mohamed Salah made a move to the big time back in 2014 when Chelsea signed him from FC Basel.

However, after a difficult first year while there was obviously talent he was not ready for the Premier League.

The Egyptian was loaned out to Fiorentina in Serie A. While he failed to set La Viola alight, he attracted interest from AS Roma, and Chelsea decided to cut their losses.

He was a revelation in Rome.

This prompted a return to the Premier League after only a couple of years in the wilderness.

Liverpool decided to give him another shot.

The rest as they say his history, with him picking up Golden Boot awards, PFA player of the year, and African player of year awards.

All on the road to success on Merseyside, with a Champions League winners medal and soon a Premier League one too.

However, former Chelsea teammate, Nigerian international John Obi Mikel admits he never thought Salah would reach such dizzying heights.

In an interview reported by Goal, he said:

“When Salah came to Chelsea, he was a young boy, but he had a nice personality and everyone loved him.”

“He was very disciplined, we were close friends, talking a lot and joking a lot, he was a good friend.”

“I believed in his development, but frankly I did not imagine that he would reach the quality that he has now.”

To say Salah is good is logical, but to say he is the best may be pushing it a bit too far.
