Talks between AC Milan and Fiorentina over a loan swap involving Lucas Paqueta and Nikola Milenkovic have been kick-started.
AC Milan are working around the clock to fulfill Stefano Pioli’s request for a reunion with his former Fiorentina pupil Nikola Milenkovic.
Widely considered as one of the best defenders in Serie A, the 22-year-old Serbian has attracted interest from several major European clubs, including Manchester United and Napoli.
But, Milan will be looking to outfox stiff competition for Milenkovic’s signature by offering favorable terms to Fiorentina. The ‘Viola’ have been unable to temp the center-back to extending his deal to date.
The Serbia international’s contract is due to expire in two years, and he’s been reluctant to put pen to paper on a new one so far.
The ‘Rossoneri’ have offered Fiorentina a swap deal to snap up Milenkovic, involving Lucas Paqueta going in the opposite direction, reports Football Italia.
Milan’s idea is to exchange players on loan with an option to buy, but it’s yet to be seen whether Fiorentina would accept such a proposition.
That plan falls within the club’s agenda to secure Paqueta regular first-team action following a frustrating season for the Brazilian forward.
The 22-year-old was good for no more than 12 Serie A starts in 2019/20, having found himself at the bottom of the pecking order at the San Siro.
Milan are aware they have no chance of recouping the €35million they dished out to take him away from Flamengo in January 2019, hence sending him on loan seems to be a reasonable solution.
Paqueta’s been deemed surplus to requirements, and even if his proposed loan to Fiorentina fails to come to fruition, he seems highly unlikely to remain in Lombardy past summer.
