Roma’s sporting director has spoken highly of his team’s Champions League opponent after the draw on Friday.
Monchi has insisted that Barcelona are the best team in the world, according to him, after the two sides were paired in the European’s most prestigious club tournament.
The Italians are at the quarter final stage for the first time since 2008, whereas the Catalans reach this stage for 11th consecutive time in a row.
Speaking to reporters about Roma’s opponent, Monchi stated:
“We haven’t had most luck as we have drawn the best team in the world, the most difficult team to face,” he told reporters, as quoted by Football Espana.
“There are no easy teams who play at this level of course and while Barcelona will be favourites, nobody should write us off as we have done very well to reach this level.
“There is a lot of excitement around the club at our qualification but now our aim is to show we can compete and win at this new level.
“Barca have the greater history and are top of their league so they will be labelled favourites, but we want to show what we are capable of.
“Any side would have been difficult, I believe Barca and City are at the highest right now but you also have Madrid, Juve and Bayern.”
