Sevilla sporting director Monchi has ruled out a romantic return to Sevilla for Ivan Rakitic, at for the time being.

Rakitic who is having a hard time in Barcelona right now, as he does no longer appears to be in manager Ernesto Valverde’s plans.

He has featured only 10 times this season, which has culminated in 255 minutes out of a possible 900.

The Croatian international arrived at the Camp Noy from Sevilla back in 2014.

He has been a mainstay of the team up until recently. He has played 279 times for Barca, scoring 43 goals and adding 38 assists.

In an interview with Canal sur radio, Sevilla sporting director Monchi believes such a romanic return is just not feasble right now.

He said:

“I don’t know and maybe in many years, but today it is very difficult.”

“He has a contract with Barcelona and is in Barcelona.”

“However, he has not lost his love for our club, but today it is somewhat implantable.”

A move away from Barca is looking more and more likely given what appears an untenable situation for the player who has stated his unhappiness.
