Morata disappointed by Chiellini’s conduct

Alvaro Morata revealed Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini dived to deny him what would have been Atletico Madrid’s opener in their clash yesterday.

The Rojiblancos later went on to defeat the Italian giants 2-0 to secure a comfortable lead heading into the second leg thanks to goals from Uruguayan duo Gimenez and Godin.

But the game was marred with controversy when VAR disallowed Morata’s header, adjudging the striker to have pushed Chiellini in the build-up.

“It’s a very important victory because Juventus are one of the best teams in the world,” the Chelsea loanee told Rai Sport via Football Italia.

“It won’t be easy in Turin. I celebrated my goal here because it meant so much to me, but I’d never do it again.

Morata who remained bitter after the game feels his goal was wrongly chalked off suggesting the Italian defender went down easily.

“I wanted to greet my former fans, who did a lot for me. Chiellini? If he did to me what I did to him, it wouldn’t have been a penalty.

“I’d need much more to throw Chiellini to the ground. In return leg, you can never say never. We must go there with belief.”

The Bianconeri will face a huge mountain to climb in the second leg as they need to overturn the two-goal deficit to stand a chance of progressing to the next round.

Juve are currently 13 points clear at the summit of the Italian League, however, the Champions League remains the primary target this season.
