Diego Simeone admits he has selection dilemmas with his Atletico Madrid side as Alvara Morata who is his first choice striker cannot play with Diego Costa.
As Atletico Madrid prepare to restart their 2019/20 La Liga campaign against Athletic Bilbao, manager Diego Simeone has some selection dilemmas.
In an interview reported by Goal, the Argentine tactician admits he likes to use his midfielders for added firepower and play with one up top.
Alvaro Morata is clearly his first choice and it appears that current tactics leave Diego Costa out in the cold.
“We manage different situations and Marcos Llorente gives us important alternatives.”
“Where we can play with three in the middle and Yannick Carrasco as a striker.”
“I think that Marcos has a very good physical condition and good finishing from behind the striker.”
“He already showed it when some people thought taking out Costa for him at Anfield was a defensive change and he was key.”
“On the possibility of putting Costa and Morata together, it is not the same as in pre-season.”
“Now I cannot take advantage of both together because I do not have a team prepared to sustain the two forwards.”
“I prefer to harness the power that each one has separately until at some point they can play together. That’s why I explain why Alvaro and Costa do not play when Alvaro is available.”
It will no doubt leading to speculation surrounding Costa’s future knowing he is down the pecking order. But on a better note midfielder Saul pledged his allegiance to the club.
