Jose Mourinho believes Tottenham deserve to experience the feeling that comes with getting past the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Jose Mourinho managed to restore the fans’ hopes as his appointment saw Tottenham get back on track and become a strong contender for a top-four finish this season.
But the Portuguese’s tenure has been marred by injuries as of late. His side have failed to win the last five of their matches in all competitions following Heung-min Son’s arm injury.
Spurs now have a daunting task of overturning the earlier 1-0 defeat as they prepare to go against RB Leipzig in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the Champions League later tonight.
And Mourinho feels a victory will help his side gain their motivation back.
“Our momentum is not the best but I feel the boys deserve something special,” Mourinho said, as Goal reports.
“The boys deserve this kind of happiness that a victory in knockout Champions League can bring.
“But sometimes in football, you don’t get what you deserve. We just have to accept and move on. But in this moment, we’re not in conditions to accept anything. We’re in conditions to fight for the tie.”
