Mourinho is one of the bests says Pochettino

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino believes Jose Mourinho is one of the greatest coaches in the world

The Spurs boss criticised United in his new book, but wrote about Mourinho with great respect.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insists there is no rift between himself and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho ahead of their weekend showdown, GOAL reports.

Both the Red Devils and the Spurs have 20 points in this season of the Premier League so far, being 5 points behind table leaders and United’s local rivals Manchester City.

An extract from Pochettino’s new book that was published this week gave an insight into what the Argentine manager thought about Mourinho’s shady move last year to try and get Eric Dier to play for the Red Devils.

Dier had been linked with a possible move to Old Trafford and confirmed interest from Mourinho’s team during a discussion with Spurs coach after the incident.

The Argentine accused Mourinho of putting Dier “in a compromising position”. However, Pochettino told the media that they figured out the situation and they don’t have a beef with each other anymore.

“That is a thing that is in the past,” said the Spurs boss, who will have to face United without top scorer Harry Kane due to an unfortunate hamstring injury.

Pochettino said his relationship with Mourinho is great and that small issue has been forgotten.

“I was honest. My relationship with him is very good, we are in contact. That was only one situation, a small one. It is not an issue.”

He went on to address his book, suggesting that the media and fans might draw wrong conclusions after reading it.

“I don’t like to speak about my book because it is in the past. The book only tried to show how difficult it is for every manager. Not only me. The intention is a book that can help a lot of people understand how our life is.”

The Special One is one of the greatest coaches in the world, along Pep Guardiola, he said.

“You can read in my book how he is, for me, one of the best managers in the world – admired like [Pep] Guardiola. I am not perfect, I am human too.”
