Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was left pleased with what he saw in Tahith Chong’s performance in their friendly against Club America on Thursday
The Portuguese tactician has had to make do without a number of his star players for United’s pre-season tour of America, to their participation at the World Cup.
Therefore a some of the young academy players have had the chance to show Mourinho what they can do across the pond this summer.
And it appears that 18-year-old Chong is someone that caught his attention with the youngster playing part in Juan Mata’s equalising goal as United avoided defeat in their first preseason game after drawing 1-1 with Mexican side Club America.
Mourinho told the club website: “Tahith was good,”
“He came with the intention to show himself and in a moment when we had no strikers on the pitch, after Anthony Martial had left, we needed people to create and have some initiative, which he did.
“The action for the cross which led to the goal was beautiful. He was enthusiastic and he had the confidence to play. Of course, physically he has limitations and when he has one more touch, and that body contact, he loses for everyone. But when he makes the ball move and when he attacks people one against one he has quality. He is a good kid.”
Chong was named United’s young player of the season last term.
