Jose Mourinho has praised Newcastle United loan signing’s Kenedy and Islam Slimani as his Manchester United team prepare to travel to St James’ Park
Heading into the game on Sunday, United will be looking to maintain the second place and have recently been able to build a small lead from their challengers. However, they also find themselves with a 13 point gap to league leader’s Manchester City.
Newcastle on the other hand are facing a battle for survival with Rafael Benitez’s side only 1 point above the regulation zone right now. It has been a difficult period for Newcastle, amid takeover talks collapsing and Benitez venting his frustration over a lack of funds to add to his squad during the January transfer window. Though Benitez did manage to secure the loan signings of Kenedy from Chelsea and Slimani from Leicester City.
Speaking ahead of their game, Mourinho took time to praise the pair and backed Benitez to take the side to safety.
“They had a very good transfer window with Kenedy and Islam Slimani [arriving],” Mourinho said, as quoted by Man United’s official Twitter account.
“They are two players I know very well and they can really improve their team. Rafael Benitez knows how to get points, so I think it will be a difficult game.”
