Naby Keita hopes that Jurgen Klopp will work his magic on him in the same way he’s done with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at Liverpool.
The Reds signed Keita from German side RB Leipzig last summer in a €60m deal in a bid to bolster their midfield options.
And it took Keita very little time to establish himself in the first-team following a fine start to his Anfield career. The Guinea international finished his debut campaign with 33 appearances and a Champions League winners’ medal.
But the 24-year-old is far from satisfied as he hopes to take his game to another level under Klopp. Plaudits have been coming the German coach’s way for maximising the talent in his squad.
The most prominent examples of these are Salah and Mane, who shared the Premier League Golden Boot award last season with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“Klopp knows how to treat players and help them,” Keita told Goal.
“He always talks with everyone on and off the pitch and helps them to improve. He can make you give all that you have and more on the pitch.
“People can see how he improved Salah and Mane and I hope he can do the same with me next season.
“I was a playmaker in Leipzig. I took the ball with more freedom to do what I want, playing the ball to strikers and wingers to assist or get in front of goal and score.
“At Liverpool, we have more attacking players like Salah, Mane and [Roberto] Firmino who boast great scoring numbers.
“My first year was about adapting with the team and to the Premier League. There are big differences between football in Germany and England and also between Leipzig and Liverpool, in my duties and the way of playing. I hope things will be even better next year.”
Keita is currently preparing for Guinea’s Africa Cup of Nations opener against Madagascar in Group B on Saturday in Alexandria, Egypt.
The 24-year-old has successfully managed to shake off a groin injury in time for this summer’s AFCON.
