Nani offered ex-Manchester United teammate Danny Welbeck his condolences after he suffered a suspected broken ankle in Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon
The English striker was stretchered off the pitch at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday with an oxygen mask after an awkward landing from an aerial challenge in the first-half.
Sporting’s Nani was seen consoling Welbeck as he was carried off to the hospital.
“It was a very sad moment,” said Nani, according to the Independent.
“I feel very sorry for him, he is a great person. A good lad and a good friend. When that kind of moment happens in the game you feel very sad.
“I don’t know what to say, I just want him to recover well and I hope it is nothing serious but you can see something happened there so I wish him all the best and a very fast recovery.”
Arsenal manager Unai Emery admitted that it looks “serious” after the game finished at 0-0.
However, the Spaniard refused to confirm whether Welbeck will face another long spell out on the sidelines.
