Gianluca Nani was at Brescia when Andrea Pirlo was coming through the ranks and believes the legendary midfielder is akin to Pep Guardiola.
Andrea Pirlo will replace Maurizio Sarri at the Allianz Arena. It will be Pirlo’s first managerial job 18 months after retiring from the game.
He has a tough task on his hands, one that he will be able to fulfill according to Gianluca Nani. The two shared time at Brescia and Nani only has fond recollections of Pirlo.
Not a lot is known about Pirlo’s ideas for Juventus. Or how Pirlo will fare as a manager. The midfield maestro is known to be a shy character, something Nani believes is a fallacy.
The out of job sporting director believes the midfield metronome will be a strong leader and has the mentality to become a top coach.
“He has a strong character,” Nani tells Sportsmail. “He doesn’t talk too much so people think that he is silent but it is not true he doesn’t talk. With team-mates he is always on the meter, he’s always the leader, lots of charisma and he has a strong winning mentality.”
“He is really positive and has such a strong mentality. For me, he will be a top coach, I really believe that.”
Reflecting on the football to expect from Pirlo, the 58-year-old reflected that he will be similar in approach to Pep Guardiola.
“He has a little bit of (Pep) Guardiola (in him),” Nani explained.
“I don’t see Pirlo playing with long balls! I see him playing attractive, offensive football, that is how I see Pirlo. As a player, he had the same attitude as Guardiola. They were different as a player but the same mentality, the same philosophy.”
