Carlo Ancelotti has finally convinced the club to snap up James Rodriguez from Real Madrid as the Colombian looks to resurrect his career

Ever since joining Real Madrid on the back of an amazing 2014 World Cup campaign, James Rodriguez has seen his career nosedive.

The former AS Monaco playmaker hasn’t been able to rediscover the form that made him one of the most exciting prospects in European football. The left-footed playmaker was sent on loan to Bayern Munich after failing to settle in the Spanish capital.

Although things started well for the former Porto man, last season was one to forget. Rodriguez struggled for game time. And when he did get some minutes on the pitch, the Colombian looked a shadow of his former self.

However, it now appears that the player is set to get another chance to turn things around. Reports in Calciomercato suggest that Napoli manager, Carlo Ancelotti has convinced club owner Aurelio de Laurentiis to sign the player.

The former AC Milan manager is a huge fan of the Colombian international having managed him during his time with Real Madrid. And Ancelotti knows exactly what would help James Rodriguez to return to his old self.

Initially, De Laurentiis wasn’t really convinced of the player’s abilities. Now it seems that the club’s eccentric owner has been won over by Ancelotti.

Napoli are also in dire need of a couple of big signings after once again being unable to challenge Juventus’ dominance in the Italian Serie A.

At the age of 27, James Rodriguez is at the age where he is supposed to peak. Playing under a manager who is appreciative of his qualities would definitely help him get there.

A fee in the region of €40-50 million is mooted to be enough to convince Real Madrid into selling a player who doesn’t have a future at the club.
