Napoli fans are not showing any mercy in their hatred for former manager Maurizio Sarri.
Maurizio Sarri was a hero in Naples. He was Neopolitan born and bred.
He managed the club for three years between 2015 and 2018.
Although he never won anything he brought a style of football that pleased the fans and earned some respect to their standing in Serie A.
He left the club for Chelsea, after finishing second in the league. The San Paolo faithful were not happy. But they understood the man’s ambition to try his talents in a better league.
Sarri was successful at Chelsea, after winning the Europa League and finishing third in the league. However, he was missing Italy and parted company with the London club after only one season.
In an interview reported by Goal, Sarri himself is aware of the Napoli fans’ unhappiness. But as his new side faces his old, he is not focused on emotions.
“It is a special game for me, but we mustn’t spend too much energy on personal issues and focus on the collective.”
“We have a very important match to play in. If the fans did jeer me, I would consider that a show of affection.”
It is clear though that the Napoli fans are not taking things so lightly, and are planning on a very public and visual attack on the Italian tactician.
