Tanguy Ndombele revealed he would be interested in joining a “big club” like Tottenham as he debates on his Lyon future.
Ndombele’s impressive progress in the past few years has captured the interest of Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Manchester City and Manchester United.
The 22-year-old has come a long way in the football world from being an overweight teenager struggling to get a break to the player he is today.
Just a few years ago, Ndombele was playing for Amiens’ reserve team in France’s fifth division. But his solid displays saw Lyon sign him on loan in 2017 before forking out €8m to make his stay permanent.
Former Lyon manager Bruno Genesio once stated Ndombele can become the new Paul Pogba. He even added he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see him emulate the French World Cup winner by joining Juventus.
And now the four-time France international is set to be at the centre of an intense bidding war this summer. Les Gones president Jean-Michel Aulas has already confirmed he’s received three offers, but didn’t reveal the identity of the bidders.
One of them, however, could very well be Spurs as their coach Mauricio Pochettino has included the 22-year-old in his four-man shortlist of transfer targets.
While he didn’t confirm if he’s in talks with Spurs, Ndombele gave the London club a glowering review and hinted he would be happy to join them.
“Yes, it’s true that Tottenham is a great team, it’s a big club,” he told Telefoot.
“They finished fourth in their league, they’re a finalist in the Champions League, it’s still a big club like any other. Which player would not be interested in a big club?”
Ndombele is under contract at Lyon until June 2023 and could, therefore, be willing to stick around a while longer.
