Manchester United need to start the season strongly and Nemanja Matic has urged his teammates to be completely ready when the time comes.
Following a miserable campaign in England and in Europe, Nemanja Matic is looking to make amends next season. Manchester United finished in sixth place and failed to qualify for the Champions League.
To make their failure even worse, they had to watch eternal rivals Manchester City and Liverpool win silverware. And Matic doesn’t want a repeat of something like that again. With the club’s first preseason campaign more than a month away, Matic is thinking about the future already.
The former Chelsea man says that the new campaign must be started on a positive note. Indeed, Manchester United need to improve their chances of winning silverware.
“I think we need to be focused from the first day, to prepare physically and to be ready mentally for the season which is in front of us,” the Serbian said on the club’s official website.
“We [must] think positively. We want to win trophies, so I think everyone needs to be ready.”
Currently on break, the midfielder says that one cannot switch off completely from the game.
“It’s not possible to not think about football because it is my life,” he said. “Twenty-four hours a day, most of the time I think about football, apart from [when I’m thinking about] my family. It is something that I’ve done since I was 5 years old.
“Even in the summer, I play football with my son and I play two-touch with my brother.”
Although the end of the season was bad, Matic says that mood in the camp is great. And the Serb cannot wait to see his teammates again.
“The mood is always great,” he said. “But last summer, because we had the World Cup, we had a shorter holiday and didn’t have as much time to rest.
“This time I think we will have more days off, so I think by the start of July we’ll be in a good mood.
