Manuel Neuer has described Thiago Alcantara as Bayern’s midfield engine and hopes the midfielder will remain at the club.
Manuel Neuer is hoping close pal Thiago Alcantara will re-consider and perhaps extend his stay at the club.
The 29-year-old has just one year left on his current Bayern contract and has already expressed his desire of a challenge elsewhere.
Liverpool are reported favourites to land Thiago this summer as the Bundesliga giants would rather sell him now than let him leave for free next summer.
Asked about the influence of the midfielder and the possibility of him being in his final days as a Bayern player, Neuer stressed he hoped the Chelsea game was not the beginning of the end for the 29-year-old in Munich.
“I hope that it won’t be one of the last matches of Thiago,” Neuer said as quoted by the Mirror.
“He had to undergo surgery at the end of the season but now he’s back and 100 per cent. He’s a very valuable player for us, especially in ball possession. He’s very important for us. He’s our engine in midfield actually.”
Bayern boss Hansi-Flick has already revealed Thiago has his mind on the Premier League.
It is now up to Liverpool to meet Bayern’s reported asking price of €30m.
