Gary Neville feels Mikel Arteta has done a huge job in helping Arsenal improve their defense this season.
Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has suggested that Mikel Arteta deserves a huge credit for being able to protect Arsenal’s ‘struggling defense.’
The Spaniard took charge at the Emirates following Unai Emery’s sacking back in December. Under him, Arsenal have lost just once in 12 matches across all competitions.
The Gunners have looked solid under the leadership of their former captain and have also managed to stabilize their much shaky backline.
And football pundit Gary Neville feels Arsenal have already started taking steps towards the right direction.
“Arteta is trying to build from a base whereby his team have been shambolic defensively all season, trying to correct that. Arsenal are well away from getting to the top, top-level. We can’t expect too many changes overnight. Just small steps in the right direction,” Neville said as per Football London.
“It’s key to get the right players in the right positions and cover up the weaknesses, which is what Arteta is trying to do. Play a system that covers for the fact his center-backs still struggle defensively and his goalkeeper as well at times.”
