Newcastle United had a 45 million pound bid accepted by Lille for Boubakary Soumare last week, only for the player to reject the move.
We often hear of a player desperate for a move and the club rejecting the offer. Well, last week the opposite happened. Newcastle had an offer accepted for a player, only for that player to decline to move.
Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has now confirmed it was the Magpies that went in for the player. But apparently he did not fancy the move to the North East of England.
Speaking to The Daily Mail, Bruce admitted it was very disappointing but he accepted it and moved on.
“We had a bid accepted. It would have been near enough a club record but the player didn’t want to come.”
“The club thought last weekend we had a chance to bring him in. But we couldn’t get it over the line, and that was a big disappointment.”
“We were booked to go on a plane and meet the boy but he changed his mind.”
There has been plenty of talk of some of Europe’s elite monitoring his situation. The France U21 player may be waiting to see if any of them come calling this summer.
