Gareth Bale could be an option for Newcastle, provided they go ahead and sign a big name manager like former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Gareth Bale would consider joining Newcastle with a top manager like Pochettino in charge, according to Dimitar Berbatov.
Newcastle are close to completing a mega £300million takeover by a Saudi Arabian consortium. Should that deal be completed, the Magpies are set to have the richest owners in England.
This likely event has seen Newcastle linked to top players in recent weeks and the most eye-catching name is Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
The Welshman has failed to convince Zinedine Zidane this season and has only been used sparingly by the Madrid boss.
Bale’s struggles has seen the 30-year-old linked with a return back to England and a move to Newcastle is one that could yet be on the cards.
However, former Spurs man Dimitar Berbatov believes that would only happen if Newcastle also get a ‘top manager’, like ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino for instance.
“If the rumours are true, and Newcastle are looking at appointing Mauricio Pochettino, it would be a great move for the team,” he told Betfair.
“If he goes there then it will be the first sign from the new owners, to the players they are targeting, that the club means business.”
“If you put Pochettino in charge at Newcastle and you go and speak to players, trust me they will pay more attention and take the offer seriously, and I’m talking about big players as well.”
“I know Gareth Bale is among those who have been linked with the club. I’m sure Newcastle will want to rebuild with some top names.”
Berbatov concludes that Pochettino could be tempted by Newcastle with the availability of funds to buy players at will. Which will in turn see the club attract players with huge reputations, like Gareth Bale.
