All eyes will be on CR7 when he takes to the pitch this weekend – but there’s a player who wants to steal the spotlight.
Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has warned his teammates not to get distracted by the buzz surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and his second debut for the club when they meet Manchester United next weekend.
Ronaldo made a sensational return to Manchester United on the summer transfer deadline day after ending his three-year stint at Juventus.
The Portuguese superstar put pen to paper on a two-year deal reportedly worth £480,000-a-week, making him the highest-earning player in the Premier League.
It is expected the 36-year-old will slot straight into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI for United’s first match after the international break.
Millions across the world will be tuning in to watch the game at Old Trafford, and Saint-Maximin wants to steal the spotlight on Saturday evening instead of Ronaldo.
Saint-Maximin said to NUFC TV: “I will try to do my best because I’m sure the world will watch this game because of Ronaldo
“But I know my quality. It will be a really hard game but I know what I can do so I think everyone will see what I can do on the pitch.
“To be honest, even before Ronaldo signed, they had a great team. So for sure, with Cristiano Ronaldo now, they can look much better.
“But we have to stay focused because if we just think about Ronaldo we’re going to lose the game, for sure.
“Even though it’s Manchester United, they are not invincible. We have to keep going and try to do the best things we can do to win this game.”
