After a turbulent last few days, the Magpies are set to announce the signing of Joelinton from German Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim.
According to Daily Star, Joelinton has decided that he wants to play in England next season with the Brazilian set to become Newcastle’s all-time record signing. Reportedly the Toon is going to pay around 42 million Euros for the forward who is expected to sign a five-year deal.
While Newcastle have managed to keep a tight lid on proceedings, Hoffenheim manager, Alfred Schreuder has confirmed that the Brazilian wants to leave the club this summer.
“It’s not my decision, that’s what the club does,” said the coach on Thursday.
“It’s always the same in football: when players leave, it also opens up room for other players, and of course it’s a shame he’s leaving, but it’s also a matter of philosophy.”
The move is definitely going to be quite a boost for Newcastle fans who have not been happy about the appointment of Steve Bruce. However, Mike Ashley might consider making a move for Joelinton as a way to placate the disgruntled supporters.
Steve Bruce has already urged the club’s fans to give him some time and respect. While speaking to NUFCTV, the former England international said that he will do everything he can to fill Rafael Benitez’s shoes.
“I know in some people’s eyes I’m not Rafa. I understand there are big shoes to fill,” he told NUFCTV on Thursday.
“But I’ll give it everything I possibly can.
“I knew it was going to be difficult – the easy thing would have been to say no.
“I just hope that people will show the respect, which obviously you only gain by getting a few results and doing the job, but hopefully that will go hand in hand.”
And with Joelinton coming to the Toon, Steve Bruce might have a promising player who could possibly guide him through testing waters.
