Liverpool will be looking to end this Premier League season in style when they meet Newcastle United on the final matchday on Sunday.

Liverpool have taken their foot off the gas ever since the resumption of the season back in June.

As evident from the fact that they have won only half of the league matches they have played since last month, it is safe to say that Liverpool have dropped off their usual high standards after the three-month lockdown.

But the dip in form makes no difference for the Reds for they have already clinched the 2019/20 Premier League title. The 30-year long wait to lift the league trophy ended following the 5-3 home win against Chelsea.

Newcastle United have managed to maintain their previous form after the resumption of the season. Now, whether that form is acceptable or not is a different subject.

The Magpies find themselves in the same position now as they were before the season was suspended – 13th. Having amassed just two points from their last five matches, their hopes a top-half finish now looks to be a distant dream.

Neither teams have much to fight for when they clash on the upcoming weekend on the finale of this Premier League season.
Here’s how the bookies lay out the probabilities of various outcomes [all odds by Betfair]:

A win for Liverpool.

As expected, the visitors are heavy favorites to win the match at 1.42 (2/5) odds. Having won 13 of the 18 matches, they have an excellent away record in the league this season. Also, each of the last four matches between the two sides has ended in the favor of the Reds.

A win for Newcastle.

This seems a quite unlike scenario. But with dismissive chances come big prices. Therefore, the hosts are priced at 8.00 (1/7) of causing an upset for Jurgen Klopp‘s men.

A stalemate.

Newcastle have drawn 11 times this season. While this is a bad result for obvious reasons, being held against the champions does not sound too bad. The odds for a draw between them is 5.50 (9/2).
