Lionel Scaloni has been given the reigns of the Argentine national team.
Lionel Scaloni will be in charge of Argentina in their attempt to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. According to beIN Sport, The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has confirmed his appointment.
Scaloni was part of Jorge Sampaoli’s coaching staff at the last World Cup in Russia. The 2018 showcase, saw the time two world cup winners struggle in the group stages.

After this unacceptable string of performances and in an already precarious position. Sampaoli was relieved of his duties.

Their statement read:
“The executive committee of the AFA decided to give continuity during the next qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar that will begin next year, to the selection project headed by Lionel Scaloni”
Their third-place match in the Copa America ended in a victory of Chile. A team they will face as part of their preparations for the World Cup qualifiers.
They are also set to face Mexico and Germany in friendlies ahead of starting on the road to Qatar.
