The striker apparently wanted by United to replace Lukaku, has just signed a new 9-year contract with Athletic Club Bilbao.
According to Athletic Club official website 25-year-old, Inaki Williams was rumoured to be on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s radar as a possible replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
If that was the case. Whatever the price was, just went up a lot.
The Basques club were very quick to act on any possible interest in their player.
Not only has he signed a deal that ties him to the club until 2028. He has had a vastly increased buy clause inserted to.
He now has 135 million Euro buy out clause. some 50 million more than his previous one.
Williams, started out in the Bilbao u19 academy team, before moving to CD Basconia. There he moved to Bilbao B team in 2014, before making the step up to the La Liga first team in 2015.
The Spaniard said of the new contract:

“I’ve always said that I’m where I want to be.”

“I’m very happy at Athletic Club”
“I just have to show it with work, effort and above all trying to help the team with goals.”

“It’s a day to enjoy to be happy and hopefully great things can come because what I want to make this club bigger if possible.”
“This, as you can see, is my house, and all I want I have it here. I’m very proud to be part of Athletic.”
In his senior career, he has managed 70 goals in 236 appearances. 49 of those goals came in 204 appearances for Athletic.
If the Lukaku deal had gone through a little sooner, it may have been a different story. But the speedy forward, will no cost the Red Devils considerably more if they are to revisit the possibility of signing Inaki Williams again.
