Neymar revealed his disapproval of fellow Brazilian Pele’s recent remarks about him following his lacklustre display at the 2018 World Cup

Pele, who won football’s biggest international competition an incredible three times for Brazil, recently stated that Neymar’s attitude and theatrics at the World Cup in Russia are difficult to defend and instead urged him to focus on his natural ability.

But Neymar isn’t impressed by his remarks and stated that everything is amplified when it concerns him.

“Pele’s criticisms? I’ve found them interesting,” Neymar told CanalPlus.

“As soon as you don’t win, criticisms come. I’ve never been acting during the World Cup, I’ve just been subject to fouls.

“Today people talk a lot about that because it’s Neymar and everything is amplified. I respect Pele’s criticisms but I don’t approve of them.”

Cafu tips Vinicius Junior for greatness

The legendary Brazilian defender believes the Real Madrid youngster has what it takes to make history with the Spanish club.

Pele had said on Neymar in December: “It’s difficult to defend Neymar for all the things he does besides playing football. I spoke with him and reminded him of his ability.”

“He was unlucky because Brazil did not win the World Cup and he was singled out.

“I’ve been with him in Europe twice. We talked and I explained: ‘The God of football gave you the gift. What you do complicates it’.”

Neymar, who has managed 60 goals and 40 assists in 96 appearances for Brazil, was unable to inspire the Seleção past the quarter-final stages of the 2018 World Cup as their hopes of a sixth title ended at the hands of Belgium.

Although Neymar has since put the struggles of Russia well and truly behind him with his brace in Saturday’s 9-0 Ligue 1 victory over Guingamp for Paris Saint-Germain putting his tally up to 20 goals in 22 games this season.

The 26-year-old striker will likely start again in PSG’s Coupe de France Round of 32 tie against Strasbourg on Wednesday, who are 21 points behind them in fifth place in the Ligue 1 table.
