Neymar named Ligue 1 Player of the Year

Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar has been named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year for his strong performances in his debut campaign

Following his world record €222m transfer from Barcelona last summer, Neymar has scored an impressive 19 goals and made 13 assists in just 20 league appearances.

The injured star was presented by the award by Brazil great Ronaldo and thanked everyone at PSG.

“I would like to thank all my team-mates, the whole team. I am very emotional and I am very happy with our season,” said Neymar, according to the Ligue 1 website.

The Brazilian’s PSG teammate Kylian MbappĂ© was named the Young Player of the Year at the TrophĂ©es UNFP for the second consecutive season.

Outgoing PSG boss Unai Emery was named the Coach of the Year with Bordeaux’s Malcom and Marseille’s Steve Mandanda winning the Best Goal of the Year and the Best Goalkeeper of the Year awards respectively.
