Niko Kovac has announced he’s “very confident” that Leroy Sane will become a Bayern Munich player during the summer transfer window.
Bundesliga champions Bayern have made it no secret of their wish to sign Sane. It comes following the departures of veteran wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben at the end of last season.
At 23, the Germany international hasn’t even begun to reach his full potential as a player. So it’s no surprise why Bayern are so keen as he could end up enjoying a similarly long and trophy-laden career as Robben and Ribery.
Kovac even previously labelled Sane as Bayern’s “dream player”. While star striker Robert Lewandowski recently claimed all the club’s German players are eagerly awaiting his arrival.
But Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wants to keep Sane at the Etihad Stadium. The Catalan, who coached Bayern between 2013 and 2016, even downplayed the German giants’ interest.
CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, however, later fired a warning to Guardiola that Bayern are still pursuing Sane.
And it appears that the club board are feeling very bullish over their prospects of signing the winger based on Kovac’s latest comments.
“Our club management is very committed behind it and I’m very confident,” the Bayern boss told ZDF.
“I assume that we can get it.
“Leroy is a great footballer who has proved that in England and with the national team.”
Despite his uncertain future, though, Sane has featured in all four of City’s pre-season games. He even struck a brace for Guardiola’s side during a 6-1 win over Kitchee in Hong Kong last Wednesday.
Although the winger hasn’t signed a contract extension that was offered to him by City recently. Therefore, doubts over his future will likely continue to persist until he finally makes an announcement.
